Long-time chgo. resident, born/raised in the city, then in the 'burbs.

Bailed water in the 60's. Bailed it in the 70's....in fact, haven't missed a decade yet.

But yeah - let's blame climate change....and while we're at it?

That Trump guy?? He oughta get some blame, too......just - BECAUSE.

I love these moronic lawsuits. Now instead of a narrative they can blabber on about endlessly, they will have to prove their "science". Just like Fauci's, theirs is pure BS. These guys never think 2 steps ahead and will help bring down the whole BS narrative when they can't prove anything in court. It takes a special kind of stupid to be a leftist politician.

"What do you think?"

I think that larceny is ubiquitous, Igor.

From individuals who cheat tradesmen and Ebay sellers, to tradesmen and Ebay sellers, from businesspeople that cheat their suppliers, customers and employees, to customers that cheat business local and corporate, all the way to government bureaucrats elected and unelected; liars, cheats and thieves abound.

Extorting money from multinational corporations via lawfare is no different. Antipathy toward the well-heeled, however understandable and often quite appropriate under many circumstances, means nothing in the context of honesty and good faith.

Maybe the oil companies ought to respond by not selling any oil products to Chicago.

You know, on the grounds Chicago don't want to be associated with the so-called 'climate change' causing oil.

If they hate oil that much, they should fix the problem by not giving them any.

No matter what happens, it's because of climate change, which is caused by C02, which is caused by "dirty Fossil fuel, which big oil is responsible for, and btw, they have a lot of money which we desperately need because we are guilty of gross fiscal mismanagement and it's time for the golden goose, which is a big fattened target, to pay up. Let the pile on began. Attorneys, line up. There's money to be made off this revenue stream. Big Oil, there's a new generation of pirates on the horizon and if you think you'll be able to pay them off too for the "privilege" of operating, you've got another thing coming. Once a hole is blown into your hull, you'll be taking on water faster than you can say "Climate Change" except we'll all be sunk.

"It specifically cites the more than 700 deaths in the city during an oppressive four-day heatwave in the summer of 1995."....

And how many hundreds or thousands of lives were saved by air conditioning run from electricity probably run from local gas fired generators? And in the winter NYC heated by their steam system powered by gas, previously by coal? Sorry, am I just nit picking?

I would caution against politicizing issues after building up a base of followers who signed up for your content based on mostly non-political content.

I think you make some good points about the silliness of suing for something that happened decades ago, and about the difficulty in proving that any given outcome is due to a problem as general and intractable as climate change.

That said, some of your article sounds as ludicrous to me as the images of Republican Senators throwing snowballs in the Senate chamber as their attempt to mock the concept of "global warming". "See? It's been a very cold winter...so much for global warming". Easy to relate to, but devoid of any understanding of any of the climate science which predicts increases in all types of extremes, including colder winters, as a consequence of climate change.

Also, your discussion of Chicago's problems in general is quite myopic and partisan, which I find to be very disappointing. You allude to Chicago's choice to be a sanctuary city as contributing to the increased influx of migrants, without bothering to mention how many of them have literally been transported there straight from Texas, often under false pretenses.

The timing of this is quite ironic, given that the Biden Administration and the Democrats finally agreed to a comprehensive (and remarkably bi-partisan) immigration bill that included most of what conservatives have been asking for for many years, only to see it die because an ex-president and presidential candidate decided that it would not help his election prospects if this problem actually started to get solved, especially by what could be interpreted as a win for Biden. Better to maintain status quo and allow migrants to enter the country essentially at will, and then use the fear of these "invaders" who are "poisoning the blood of Americans" to gain votes.

You are sorely misinformed on so many things you mention. First of all, if you knew any of the details about the supposed border bill, you would know it was a farce. The law called for an "optional shutdown" to be "determined" by the Secretary of DHS (uh Mayorkas in this case) only after 5,000 per day on average for a week were let in. There was no hard and fast shutdown whatsoever. Plus, it allowed for 1.8mn illegal immigrants into the country per year at a minimum. This was a political ploy by the Democrats with no teeth in the bill. It appears you fell for it. You should actually do some homework before you try to opine on something. Unless, that is, you are for a continued assault on our border. This is the reason Trump and the conservative Republicans did not support the bill. We have seen over 10 million illegals rush our border non stop since Jan 21. Do you comprehend 10 million and what that means to the burden on everything from medical care, to infrastructure to public safety, as well as destroying any kind of an operable and functioning public education system for real taxpaying citizens? As far as the sanctuary cities and shipping people there goes, the buses sent to them by red states is a tiny fraction compared to the people that chose to go to these cities once through our border. Plus, those states were clearly in support of this assault on America, so for the small fraction out of the total in Sanctuary cities that were sent there by red states, these cities got what they asked for. There is no defending that. The fact that you thought this bill would have solved the problem is so indicative of what's wrong with nearly half this country. They have zero facts but think they have them all. Your ignorance of what was actually in this bill is astounding. I am not surprised given your lack of knowledge on this bill, that you also think that climate change from CO2 is real as well. You really need to stop getting sound bites from whatever news services you subscribe to and do some independent research on this. The last sensational headline for the narrative on this was "97% of scientists agree global warming from CO2 is a real threat". The truth is they surveyed over 2,000 scientists and could only find about 100 that believe in this BS. So like the covid jab trials, they manipulated the data. They chose the 97 that gave them what they wanted and 3 others from the roughly 1,900 that knows it is BS, so they could have their dramatic headline. So if you believe in all this, please inform us all how going net zero will put a dent in anything given these scientific facts: CO2 in the atmosphere is merely 0.4% of all atmospheric gases. Globally, man contributes about 4-5% of all CO2 while the oceans contribute the rest. Good luck going to net zero and having any impact whatsoever, except for the destruction of quality of life and economic collapse. Besides, there have been many studies that show where there is more CO2, there are healthier forests and vibrant plant life. Oh, damn that makes sense. The facts just get in the way of a good narrative. Truly do homework on this and you will find out you have been the victim of a giant hoax, just like Covid was a dangerous pandemic that had an IFR of 3.5%. Oh wait, it was like 0.23% in the end. And that was WITH all the skewed record keeping on categorizing so many deaths as covid deaths. Which we know was BS. I could go on and on with the facts, but will stop here. I just encourage you to open your eyes on all this stuff. If you are reading Igor, you must have your eyes open to Covid and the jab scam. So what happened on the other government narratives you are sucking up? The source is the same.

Dave, I appreciate your sincere comment.

Covid remains my own favorite topic. But I do not want this substack to be only about Covid, for many reasons.

Sometimes there is nothing to write about Covid. Twitter is full of fake news, etc, which is not something I want to share with my readers. Do you want me to repost those?

There are many things to be skeptical about. This skeptic blog touches upon those topics when there is something interesting.
