Just curious what the definition of low carb is? Below 50 net grams a day? I have been eating the ketogenic way since January 2021 which for me is 20 net grams of carbs a day. I lost 40lbs, eliminated my body inflammation, cleared my sinuses, and far fewer tension headaches per month. I was neither diabetic nor prediabetic but just worried about CoVid in general. I wanted to optimise my metabolic health. I also started taking 10,000IU vitamin D (with vitamin K, zinc, Mg++, etc). I also use a glucometer, which can also test for ketones.

I read the book “A Case For Keto” by Gary Taubes. Excellent book.

As someone earlier mentioned, vegan diet can be high in carbs. Carbs are not essential as your liver will make what you need. Your brain can run on ketones.

Whatever your path I wish you all the best in getting back on track. 🙏🏻

Also if you have had diabetes for 5 years please get your eyes examined by a retinal specialist or an ophthalmologist and not an optician. I worked with retinal specialists for many decades and it was sad to see patients who had diabetes for years only presenting when they lost vision. Damage can be prevented, but it can’t be recovered once it’s lost.

As it’s said the eyes are the window to the soul, but in diabetics they are the window into what is happening in the kidneys and other organs.
