I'm quite in agreement. I grew up in the 1970s when prepping was called "survivalist." My dad, later mom too, had retired to a rural mountain. As a teen, I had enough taste of even normal life there; we did not garden much, but I had a good trial (and much reading) of what doomsday would be like. I decided then, and still hold that opinion at 60, that I'd rather die quickly if the entire system breaks down. And, based on various readings, I think that'd be the fate of the majority of a population. Yes, I admit that attitude is "defeatist," but consider my position. I'm old now, no family. I like civilization, despite its many defects. If it's really the fate of the world to reset back to the 18th century or worse, then I'll die with it. Such a world will only support many fewer people, and they will need to be closer to animal than man. I'll take the express exit, thank you just the same.

It's not defeatist... it's realistic.
