Because there are so many more successful women than successful men? Hmm...Since there aren't, I suggest you may want to refine that theory...

When I was an undergraduate, one of my professors, an Austrian Canadian Ashkenazi who had left his last university with glowing references (they were desperate to get rid of him) was gay and students were required to sit for oral examinations with him. I went to my examination wearing my girlfriend's mascara and blue eye shadow. Although it was irrelevant to the course topic his first question "What do you think of homosexuality?" I answered "It's just a perfectly normal thing and an appropriate lifestyle choice." I left unscathed and found later I had received a grade of "Distinction." I was a bit miffed that this would pull down my GPA because usually I got "High Disctinctions." Not long afterwards I encountered him in a hallway. He said "I've been thinking about you. How would you like to come to dinner with me and we can talk about how you could upgrade your "Distinction" to a "High Distinction." I said "Thanks but I can live with a Distinction" and decined. He was the head of the "Ethics Council." He sodomized several of my classmates.

That entire revelation made my head spin. What decade was this? Was this an American or Canadian university?

Are you putting us on?

No it was more than 15 years ago and wasn't in North America. I was a very young undergraduate doing my first degree. He was a world authority in his field but an alcoholic. He'd come from a Canadian university with impeccable references. Before long he was turning up for classes drunk. He took a group of students to India with him. I wasn't one of them. He preyed on them. It was traumatizing for them. My thesis supervisor was sn American lady who hated him. He was, as it turned out later, a suspected pedophile and got arrested. He offered another student a large sum of money to have gay sex with him The student refused, saying "The money wouldn't last but the memory would." I put the eye liner and eye shadow on very subtly. I knew he wouldn't be an objective marker and when he asked me that question about homosexuality i told him what he wanted to hear. I valued high grades, but not to the extent that I would even consider doing anything homosexual. In all my university coursework, in any subject that wasn't objective, like mathematics or statistics or physiology or anatomy, where anything was contentious, I always said or wrote what my professors wanted to hear. It couldn't happen today., I hope. Sexual harassment was rife. My supervisor was having an affair with a convicted hitman on day release from prison. I liked her, but developed a low opinion of academics. One of my thesis examiners had been a defence witness for Ted Bundy. But at least I didn't ever encounter anyone like that Penn State professor who was arrested last week for having sexual relations with his dog.
