Sure, countries sometimes make stupid decisions that don't suit their terrain. Maybe they should make better informed decisions. Or maybe they're just human and honestly can't do any better.
Even reading the science on it all, my Instinct says burning excessive fossils fuels (note I wrote 'excessive') is dumb and nuclear power is ludicrous.
I guess we will agree to disagree!

I expected better from the Germans to be honest. Their energy policies have been expensive and monumentally stupid for decades. It is as if they were in a competition to prove that they were the dumbest bunch in Europe and they paid stupendous amounts of money to prove it. Nuclear power has had a bad reputation and it is based on the assumption that we have no idea how to reuse or store properly the spent fuel. All nonsense but it is very catchy and gets people really worked up about it. The propaganda media that was so good at convincing people that the jabs are "safe and effective" and "stop transmission" are very much responsible for the hysteria (as usual the media is responsible for propagating and enforcing massive lies). BTW, the money for the campaign against nuclear power came from ... the Middle East (yep, the Arabs really care about the environment of the kuffa countries). If one is objective and informed, the opinion changes quickly. Ask the French - they get their power from nuclear and it worked out OK. In fact they are smart enough to build more.
This is a great little article, even though it's from 2012. The comments are also very interesting.
Because humans are such great marketers to the point that they are willing to crush others' leaps forwards (think fossil fuel industry trying to crush their opposition), how are we, as a species, ever going to move forwards?
There's ALWAYS someone crying "It's safe & effective!" because they want to sell THEIR thing - regardless of whether it's helpful or good or safe or effective!
I don't trust nuclear because I don't trust humans. And because no matter what you do with spent fuel, there's still a LOT of half-lives to consider!! And my life and my grandkids' lives (and everyone else's!) will be well and truly over before we've even got this spent fuel rod business half-figured out. WE KNOW there's a radiation problem and we KNOW we have to bury them, like forever, but we still keep using it. Kind of reminds me of the heroin addict: "I know it's bad, but man! It feels so good!"
Safe and effective.
Riiiight.
See, this lack of trust is what KEEPS me alive - and if you converse with many people who didn't take the jab, you will find that there is a high percentage of them who are 'survivors' already (bad childhood, poor relationships, being oppressed in life by people/govt, bullying etc etc). Maybe we're lucky to be alive, but maybe we listened to our Intuition as well. Doesn't your intuition worry at least slightly about radiation risks on our biological system - and our DNA future - from using nuclear fuel?

Nuclear is a great example of my concerns with humans not changing tack.
