The modern lifestyle in the West as it is right now is not something that I would regard as a model to copy. I would argue that the current model is something to avoid as it is designed to destroy the family unit and all aspects of morality. It is clearly devoid of purpose and self destructing. The US large cities are a showcase of how bad things get when people without purpose and morals are in charge. They care only about power and will do anything to keep that power. You get more dead in Chicago every weekend than you get on the border of Armenia & Azerbaijan which is still in a low level state of war.
I think that tech is now way overused and if the society is to improve, mind destroying garbage like Tik Tok and Faceborg/Metaborg needs to be gone, permanently. It only encourages a selfish, drone like mentality that got us in the Covid mess almost overnight. Instead of spending time with family, way too many people spend time on pointless garbage in front of a screen. No wonder so many people are depressed. They are literally at sea without a working rudder.
On energy and climate, it is a case that we just disagree. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. In the case of nuclear energy I have had a look at the facts and I see things very differently. Just for disclosure, I was roughly 900 kms away from Chernobyl when that mess happened. I also have nuclear physicist friends who have had very interesting views on the topic (definitely no consensus there). Hence, I think I understand the risks about nuclear power well enough. The reaction of most people is somewhat understandable as most of the information they get is from the media which is not in any shape or form a neutral arbiter.
The climate change business is definitely a massive scam and not all changes lead to the end of world. I could go on for pages on the failed "predictions" of how everything is getting worse and we have only 10-20 years to save ourselves. Not true. I still have the cut outs of the articles from the late 1990's and early 2000's saying that the UK will never see snow after the 2008. I kept copies because I recognized then that this was nonsense and I wanted to keep the evidence. Every single generation there has been a group that would agitate about some world calamity and like at all times in history, the world kept moving on especially once the doomsday predictions failed to materialize. The difference is that this is now being actively weaponized against everyone by well resourced psychos that want a1984 kind of world that they get to run. I do not want a world in which I am not allowed to travel because of carbon emissions. I do not want a world in which I have to eat bugs because apparently it saves the planet (which it does not). Yet that is the direction we are heading if we go along with the climate change scam. Covid was an eye opener of what happens idiots and psychos get a free pass to do whatever they please.
Final point - I like the Substack format especially in the format that Igor runs. Everyone gets a say and that is why it is worth reading. It provides alternate points of view and often one learns new facts. I read it and post on it because it allows almost 100% uncensored discussion - I have no expectations of agreement from the readers of my posts and I will say it one more - you are entitled to your own opinion and have every right to support your view with whatever facts/info you deem useful. Giving up on the platform because there is disagreement on some topic is unfortunate but again, everyone makes their own decisions.
Newsweek article, April 28, 1975: "Cooling World." I have a copy of it on my computer, it was called "climatic" change then. We were supposedly heading into a mini ice age of sorts. All kinds of dire predictions just like we are hearing now. Hilarious to read, a 47 year old blast from the past, and perhaps the birth of the climate change scam industry.
I think that the end of world is coming scam is as old as civilization itself. The difference is that this sort of scam used to have a limited reach and it used to alternate (we will freeze vs we will burn) as one scam was proven to be just that - a scam.
Now, a bunch of demented individuals with a fixation on controlling everything and everyone (because they know better) have latched on to this nonsense and sadly, they are making progress. I have seen a media drive to normalize implants (you no longer need keys or cards for shopping - it is all done via a subcutaneous chip) that would allow the sort of surveillance and control, which would make China look like a free country. Norway is testing a card system that tracks all transactions on the basis of carbon usage and when your quota is gone, no more transactions. Hard to believe that people are that stupid and ignorant, but they are. How many people got Alexa or the equivalent in their houses? Answer? A ton in the West. If the government would mandate a microphone in their houses, the same people would be very unhappy. However, they are happy for Amazon, Google or whoever has an equivalent to monitor their conversations - 24/7. Moreover, they PAY for it. The climate change is the perfect scam because it appeals to a lot of people at the most basic level (who doesn't want to save the world, right?). I just hope that enough people wake up before they are stuck in a bio-tech totalitarian dystopia that will make all previous totalitarian system look like paradise.
Thanks for your thoughts. Seems you have acquired some knowledge in your years!
Perhaps the climate change 'business' is indeed a massive scam, and I'm certainly not about to boot over people's businesses or farmland that are working right now just because they're suddenly considered as causing 'too much' pollution in some bureaucrat's calculations.
However, trying to look after the Earth because it is a more natural way to live and be is not a scam. I don't want to eat bugs or live in high-rises or not be able to travel any more than you! But it just seems that any time anyone mentions something about being nice to the Earth, they are labelled as 'climate change crazies' and laughed at, just as if they were willingly wearing masks and taking jabs.
I'm all for making the world a cleaner place and living sustainably, but over much TIME. After all, we're not the only ones who live here. Governments should be supporting measures like renewable energy research and better farming practices etc, not just effectively saying 'we have to close down your farms unless you all move to organic farming right now'. That one didn't work out too well, did it?! It might've been a good idea in the long-term, but it had a stupid implementation.
And yes, I like Igor's substack. He's a nice guy, has a great sense of humour, appeals to many by how and what he writes - and everyone mostly gets a reasonable say. But writing comments to try to say what's in/on your mind is not always the easiest. A lot gets lost in translation, shall we say.
Igor is a very nice bloke who is a reminder that there are good people out there. He stuck his neck out and that is something that I will always appreciate, especially as the blow back could still be very damaging from all points of view (his name would also make some people I know throw a fit).
I do not laugh at people wanting to be nicer to Earth. I am all for less pollution and protecting some areas. However, I do have a laugh when I see the "extinction rebels" go on their trademark "protests" while using the latest tech (no oil, then you cannot have plastics and as result no mobiles or smart watches), wearing cold proofed modern jackets (yep, oil again) and acting like toddlers that have had one their toys taken away to be cleaned. The hypocrisy of these people is breathtaking. I also despise the "experts" that never leave the air-conditioned environments in the city but self confess to know more than the country folk (many of them would be terrified of the actual country). Much of the old wisdom on how to manage the environment has gone because we have had unelected morons ruining (yes, I do mean ruining) things. Going in the country here in Oz and back in Europe was very instructive. The people who work the land have a ton more knowledge than they are given credit for and are commonly stuffed by stupid city dictated environmental policies that are both costly and damaging. I am an academic by training and I often cringe at how isolated and irrelevant some parts of the academia are in reality.
