The fact he didn't immediately argue/mock/disrespect/metaphorically spit on you for not just lying there like meat on a plate and never using your own brain to make your own medical choices puts him head and shoulders above a lot of docs I've heard about.

I had a doc I liked a lot. He quit and moved. I’m in generally good health for a 67 year old and get a yearly physical.
I called the office and asked to see the guy I see now. No can do, said the gatekeepers. Not taking new patients. So I wound up with another guy in the same office.
As soon as he walks in the chair isn’t even warm and he doesn’t have my EMR open and he says I need Statins. Why? My cholesterol is fine.
He looks at me like I’m a dick. Then goes into a routine of scaring me with horrible scenarios. This is in stark contrast to the Dr I was previously seeing.
So I tell him I know what Statins do to people. I’m active. I bike. Run. Walk. Not overweight. No shortness of breath. No chest pain.
Then he says his wife thought the same and had a heart attack anyway. At this point I’m not so sure I believe his story.
So I tell him Satins make you tired, lethargic, achy. So when I stop exercising and get fat you’ll tell me I’m overweight then put me on another prescription for weight loss! (Ozempic wasn’t out yet).
Needless to say I left with no intention of seeing him again. I wound up having to call a ringer that gave the office some shit for not letting me see the guy I originally wanted.
Next day they contacted me and said Dr “No Patients” will magically see me. Naturally because he works in the same office he asked me why I wasn’t seeing the other guy?
So I told him to pull up my lipid panel tests and tell me if you think I need Statins? He looked and said, no. Why?
Then I gently explained my point of view. This was maybe a year or two pre-Covid.
So he knows where I stand and knows there’s a limit to how much crap I’ll put up with.
Still, you’re right. There’s no law that says he has to put up with me. These are just routine exams after all.
It is unbelievably annoying the hoops you have to jump through, the bullshit you have to put up with, and the knowledge you have to possess to be able to find a good doctor. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Personally, I don't think anyone ever needs statins and I wouldn't touch them no matter what my cholesterol was, with the side effect profile they have. We all die of something, and I'd rather die of a heart attack than live the way my mom was living when they had her on statins after her clot surgery--she swore to them she'd never touchbthem.again even if it meant she would die tomorrow, that's how bad it was. As far as I can see, the problem was manufactured to sell a pharma solution, and there are doctors who agree with me on that. The fact that there are any doctors who are pushing that crap onto everyone and anyone, refuse to even listen to anything contradicting it, and even want it put in the water supply is terrifying.
Good for you for taking a stand and sticking to your guns though! I know too many people who happily do whatever the doctor says without asking questions or doing any research, and they think I'm mentally ill for not doing the same. They're also on a barrel full of pills each and constantly having issues, but I'm.crazy and unhealthy because I don't believe in getting asymptomatic exams (I'm a "when i have an actual problem I will go if nothing else works--maybe" type and it has served me well and helped me avoid some serious medical harm) and I do believe in questioning and criticizing doctors and doing my own research. Its like the idea that everyone gets to make the health decisions that suit them goes to crap for some people the moment someone makes a different choice.
Thanks. Yes, I agree with your stance. A friend of mine that’s a family doc told me the NIH did a study basically proclaiming everyone over 50 would benefit being on Statins. He said the powers that be are pushing doctors hard to prescribe them. I call bullshit. Funny, because even he says the key to a long life is to stay out of doctor’s offices unless absolutely necessary. One of the many scary things about the pandemic is, it’s clear they don’t want patients to have the right of refusal. My body my choice like everything they push only applies to select circumstances.
