Raising equity capital for environmental-related technologies is a major challenge. Interest in environmental technology has blown hot and cold over the years. The harmful compounds in the wastewater get concentrated in the sludge produced by wastewater treatment plants. My system destroys all the organics in the sludge and profitably generates electricity from it. A German national lab successfully demonstrated the design. These days, investors all seem to be looking for the next Facebook. ;)
I've participated in crowd sourced equity funding through WeFunder and StartEngine. Some of those investments will likely never pan out, but some have already seen great growth. While the FANGs are largely for sheer entertainment and get the buzz, there are still opportunities for technology entering old markets. I'm impressed with what tech can do for a ag sector. I suspect there are opportunities in cleaner communities as well.
Perhaps the feminization of young males might make some happy, I suspect there are a lot of women who prefer men. Getting those hormones out of the environment seems pretty important. The future demands continuation of masculine males. I suspect we are not aware of the long term issue.
I suspect crowd funding may not attract the amount of capital we're looking for. Power generation technology is capital intensive. The timeline to profitability is longer. But it offers an attractive payout.
The problem with chemical contamination of our drinking water has been well known for decades. There's birth control hormones, pharmaceutical residues, illegal drugs. If people ingest it, some of it eventually ends up in our drinking water supply due to land-spreading of wastewater sludge. In the USA, 60% of the sludge is spread on the land. It's also an ideal technology for destroying toxic substances such as PFAS, PCBs, VOCs. The technology has many applications.
I patented a technology that could do this.
Marketing the patent? If we can desalinate we ought to be able to have clean water - but there is a cost.
