Know what you mean about it being a not happy but grateful awake. There is a certain clarity and inner peace that descends after a most shocking awakening.

Exactly. There was nothing about the truth that was "good." And the awakening process was painful--panicky, depressing, fearful of future (esp. for kids), but at the same time, it was like a spell was broken and everything made sense. So ironic that knowledge of horrifying facts (with no particular end in sight) also brings that feeling of inner peace.

I’m still awaiting the inner peace, but otherwise I can relate 100%. Especially concerned for the world our kids are growing into and praying that they remain strong young adults and don’t cave or fall into fear or conformity with their peers.

I’m sure it’s very unsettling to live in a world that doesn’t seem to have a logical foundation. Once one begins to strip away the lies and deceit the inner peace of which you write gives one confidence to face the world.
