Canadian politics, the Liberal Party always exploits it. Their base is southern Ontario (Toronto) and French Quebec. Plus, they throw welfare at the Maritimes to own them, welfare and handouts, pandering to this country’s lowest denominator. Win those regions, and you control the country. Western Canada hates Trudeau. I see no solutions other than their supporters die by jab. And I’m okay with that. Happy New Year

It may sound naïve but probably a simpler solution for places like Canada and Oz is to have a very, very weak federal and state government that is only there for a unified military and customs/trade purposes. The power should rest with the local (and I do mean really local) government and the police should be paid by the individual towns to prevent any sort of overall tyranny that we have seen in both places. If the pay-check for the police comes from the local community then I am willing to bet that would be telling any State or Federal body to get lost if totalitarian measure are dictated from above. After all, it is in their own interest to be in agreement with the communities that pay them.
Unfortunately, doesn’t work that way, City cops in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Ottawa, etc, we’re just as Nazi like as the RCMP.
I am a conservative, and used to back the blue, but now see them as goosestepping government brownshirts without morals. No Trust anymore in any government authority. Clown world.
I am conservative too and I also used to back the police until they went all fascist overnight. My point is that the pay should come from local government in the same way they pay the garbage collection. Nothing at the level of city or even town because that make them accountable to city hall which is no better. Their jurisdiction would also be very localised so that if some scumbag cop from the city wants to get technical in the suburbs, the local cop get to toss him out. If the local cop fails to do that, no pay and is gone the next day, period. It is ironic but where I was born that is how the law enforcement was done effectively for centuries until the commies came and centralised everything. It turns out that here in the West, the commies have been very effective in doing the same thing without having the Soviet army to back them.
